The SOMAFCO Young Writers
The SOMAFCO Young Writers (SYW) is aimed at a broad cross section of youth, predominantly in and from South Africa. The competition will draw new ideas, help forge positive identities and reward participants through exciting prizes. These are youth with whom the ideas of peace and friendship within and outside South Africa can be infused. These are the future nation builders. They are our window into the future and are the biggest population segment in South Africa and the continent.
What is the SOMAFCO Young Writers ( SYW)
The SOMAFCO Young Writers is an essay writing competition for youth in schools, universities and general public run by the SOMAFCO Trust. It consists of various phases which involve the various category of youth in the different vocations or stages of life.
Objective of SOMAFCO Young Writers
- To celebrate and amplify the liberation struggle values that are now “ codified in our constitution”
- To preserve and leverage the heritage of the liberation struggle
- The promotion of reflective learning
- To build an appreciation for reading and writing ( promotion of reflective learning)
- To improve literacy skills
- To get the broach cross section of youth to celebrate the rich values and principles of the liberation struggle
- To generate new ideas from the liberation struggle
Who can participate?
The SOMAFCO Youth Writers Competition will incrementally be opened in phases to:
- Selected Primary Schools & High School students from across the country
- University Students
- Youth in general
- International based youth
